One of the great things about living in a large city is that you have quite a wide range of options open to you when you are looking for all the latest news. There is of course, the Internet, which today is the first choice of most people looking for information whether it's on the best prices on words for walls or the latest Hollywood gossip. Then there's local television news, radio, and of course newspapers.
In a city like Rockford, there are several newspapers which compete for the business of patrons from all around the city and its metropolitan area. The Rockford Register Star is one of those papers. It is the oldest newspaper in the city, as it was first printed back in 1850. If one were to look at a paper from those days, it would remind you of some of the cheap postcard printing work you sometimes see in dollar stores. Of course, the commitment to bringing the news to the people of the area was still the same. Today, that commitment is combined with a modern appearance which has helped to make the paper one of the most popular in the state.
In format, of course, the Register Star does not differ greatly from most other newspapers you would find anywhere in the United States. The A section contains the top stories; which business is being sued by a Hamilton Ontario lawyer, crime, local interest, and so on. Classifieds, sports, and comics are also included.
What sets the Star apart from other papers in the state is, like all papers which enjoy a good reputation, the quality of its staff. You don't get to be the fifth highest circulating newspaper in a state which includes the country's third largest city without some great reporting and a great editing team. The articles published in the paper on everything from home health care in Saint John to pet care are meticulously researched and crafted so they are informative and interesting to readership.
The paper is large enough to appeal to a broad range of interests, as well. Opinion pieces looking at the relative environmental and health benefits of organic diapers and other such topics are usually well received, and invoke many responses. The editorial page can focus on any number of issues, whether local, national, or international in nature.
That local flavor will always be one of the strongest selling points of the Register Star and newspapers like it all across the country. While you will find all sorts of news on the Internet and other locations, no one can cover local issues and events quite like a local paper. With a presence online as well, the Rockford Register Star will be bringing this information to citizens of the city for years to come.
